Conceived originally as a movie idea, the novel combines advanced aircraft, AI-driven weapons, espionage,
conspiracy, and a global underdog conflict designed to be imagined on the screen.
Australian author, musician, and lifelong creative Tony Rebeiro channels his fascination with
technology, science fiction, superheroes, space, and visual storytelling into An Unlikely War: When
Control Turns Allies to Enemies, a futuristic military thriller built with the scale and momentum of a
global action film.
Rebeiro explains in the book that the concept first came to him in 2008 as an entertaining idea for
a movie. The completed novel preserves that origin through a sequence of highly visual set pieces:
stealth aircraft dropping from extreme altitude, AI-equipped missiles adapting in flight, special-forces
units moving through hostile terrain, covert intelligence operations, command rooms tracking battles
across continents, and former allies facing each other in the air and on the ground.
The story centers on a widening conflict driven by U.S. President Richard Tate, whose military
campaigns are supported by unprecedented advances in weaponry. The Omega Manta fighter,
Comanche-Serpent helicopter, AISJ missile system, Scram jet propulsion, and integrated AI
technology allow American forces to overwhelm conventional defenses and reshape the strategic
balance of the fictional world.
Opposing that momentum is British military strategist Michael Lordsbride, whose growing
doubts about the American campaign lead him into a confrontation with his own Prime Minister, an
investigation into a secret international organization, and eventually the responsibility of helping
unite a European resistance.
The novel’s science-fiction element gains further weight through Dr. Paul Saul, a humanitarian
scientist whose work in neuro-prosthetics becomes the foundation for the AI chip used in military
systems. His hidden countermeasure gives the underdog forces a way to challenge an opponent that
had appeared technologically unbeatable.
Rebeiro’s professional background is notably different from the world he writes about. He has
spent his career working in accounting and financial management while maintaining long-standing
creative interests in music, technology, film-scale storytelling, superheroes, and space. An Unlikely
War brings those imaginative interests together in a single speculative universe.
Written to be visualized as well as read, the novel is aimed at readers who enjoy military science
fiction, techno-thrillers, geopolitical suspense, conspiracy stories, futuristic combat, and narratives in
which human strategy must find a way around apparently overwhelming power.
